Ca2+ ions have two fewer electrons, giving them a positive charge. They are most likely to form ionic bonds.

Homeostasis refers to the natural tendency of the body to maintain certain vital characteristics (temperature, acidity, etc.). Allostasis refers to achieving the same balance, but is a response to a large change in the balance of one or more of these aspects rather than to the constant subtle changes of homeostasis. In this way, allostasis can be seen as a way of restoring homeostasis.
